Mental Capacity and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (MCDoLS)

Description
This course is aimed at all those who care or support someone who may lack capacity to make decisions about the way they want to live their life.

Anyone caring for or supporting a person who may lack capacity must comply with the Mental Capacity Act and its codes of practice.

The Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) are part of the Mental Capacity Act 2005. These safeguards aim to make sure that people in care homes and hospitals are looked after in a way that does not inappropriately restrict their freedom. This regulation is supported by regulation 18 where providers must provide sufficient numbers of suitably qualified, competent, skilled and experienced staff to meet the needs of the people using the service at all times.

This course looks at the Mental Capacity Act (MCA) 2005 alongside the MCA code of practice and best interests framework and practical ways to support individuals right to make decision.
